THE BEVERLY HILLS/HOLLYWOOD NAACP ANNOUNCES HONOREES AND NOMINEES FOR THE 17TH ANNUAL NAACP THEATRE AWARDS

 

( Los Angeles , CA ) January 16, 2007 -- Today, the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP announced honorees and nominees for the 17th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards.  The announcements took place in the Oscar Room of the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood , California .  Actor Isaiah Washington (“Grey’s Anatomy”), actress Loretta Devine (“Dreamgirls”), Vanessa Williams (“Soul Food”), Terri J. Vaughn (“Daddy’s Little Girls”), and “TV One Access Hollywood” co-host Jamal Munnerlyn , were on hand to make the announcements.  The event was also attended by Ron Hasson, president of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP, Willis Edwards, NAACP National Board Member, Tia Boyd, Executive Director of the NAACP Theatre Awards.  The prestigious star-studded gala is produced in an effort to acknowledge the many contributions of African Americans in theater.  This year’s selected theme, “Imitation of Life,” celebrates the evolution of the portrayal of African Americans in theater, from unrealistic, stereotypical caricatures to a more balanced and honest reflection of the Black experience as a whole.  The 17th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards will be held on Monday, February 19, 2007 at 7 pm at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Theatre, located at 7920 Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles , California .  This year’s event will be Hosted by Emmy Award-nominated actress Chandra Wilson (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Steve Harris (“The Practice”).

The 17th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards are sponsored by:  AT&T, Tanqueray, Crown Royal, Allstate, Toyota , Honda, Nestle, TV One and Radio One.
